ARC2723 COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

This subject allows us to understand the basics of digital modeling with the use of software's such as Rhinoceros and 3DS MAX.

PROJECT 1

Modelling Of An Architectural Design

In this project we were told to produce a 3D model and geometries of a selected architectural design using 3DS MAX or Rhinoceros or by using both.

The objective of the project was to produce the model that I chose from my previous Design Studio 2.
Making the form digitally for the first time in my life was actually quite interesting and progress are shown below.

The picture shows the completed floor plan traced out in AutoCAD to be processed into a 3D model.

Rhinoceros 5.0 was used to make the construction of the house from the CAD floor plan.

This Fig 1.0 shows the extrusion of walls from the ground floor plan.

Fig 1.1 Shows the extrusion of walls and roof formation of the 1st floor from the CAD floor plan.

Fig 1.2 shows the combination of the 2 floors.

Fig 1.3 shows the completed house with the addition of the final part which was the stairs.

The file was then exported into a 3ds max file and further continued in 3DS MAX as shown below.

The model was placed on the contour traced off my site drawings into Rhino and imported into 3DS MAX.

The first project here was done and the following are 5 rendered images of the model.

PROJECT 2

This project 2 is divided in two stages whereby part (a) consists of exterior rendering and part (b) consisting of production of interior renderings.

All renderings had to be made in such a way and materials added, to show photo realistic images with appropriate lights and site context.

The following images show the progress of the second project.

PART (A) Exterior Renderings.

Fig 2.0 shows the addition of trees into the site.

Test render 1.0: checking how trees will look

Test render 1.1 : more trees added

Test render 1.2: all trees added

Test render 1.3: flowers and plants addition on the balcony.

Fig 2.1 : materials like wood is being added into the building.

Test render 1.4: checking how materials will look.

Fig 2.2: Touch up on materials.

Fig 2.3: adding Dark Wood Materials on the stairs.

Test render 1.5: Roof  unhidden for materials to be added.

Test render 1.6 : roof materials added.

Test render 1.7: All flower plants added.

Test Render 1.8: Checking out effect of light on the design

Test render 1.9 : Still checking for views use for final rendering

Test render 2.0 : trying out environment panel on 3ds max with logarithmic exposure control

Final Render 1 (Eye view 1)

Final Render 2 (Eye view 2)

PART (B) Interior Renderings

Test render 1.0: Checking out rendering scenarios.

Test rendering 1.1: Tea table added
Test rendering 1.2 : More furniture added e.g, the swing.

Test rendering 1.3: rendering scenario (a) with camera angle set.

Test rendering 1.4: Rendering scenario (b) adjusting light effects.

Test Rendering 1.5: Rendering scenario (c) final adjustments on light.

Project 3 : 3D Animation

This project allowed me to create a 90 second 3d video of the model i have made earlier.
