ARC2118 DESIGN STUDIO 3

Project 1
Journey for the 5 senses

Part (A)

PRECEDENT STUDIES: Analysing spatial poetics & spatial typologies in architecture

In this part 1 of this project in a group had to produce 4 A3 panels that showed analysis of spatial poetics and spatial typology 2 chosen precedents.

The chosen precedents had to be one PRE- MODERN MOVEMENT and another one CONTEMPORARY. It also had to be one CONCENTRIC and one LINEAR.

PART (B)

The Journey for the 5 senses:

In this part of the project, using the same strategies as part A; a poem was given and as a group we were to visualize and interpret in an architectural perspective.
The latter, we were to produce to designs one of which is to be linear and the other one to be concentric.

E.g. of renderings and model process shown below:

The Linear design:

The Concentric design:

Project 2
GENIUS LOCI: Site Analysis & Concept Development

In this project we were told to do our own micro site analysis in Labrador Nature Reserve in Singapore and and interpret it in an A2 board.
The latter, individually we had to show our personal interpretation of the site through sketches and memories and come up with a concept development for the visitor interpretive center for the next project.

Project 3
GENIUS LOCI: VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE (VIC)

Project 1 introduced and explored the formal and poetic articulation of architecture in a site-less condition. Project 2 established a Design Concept as a driver for architectural development. In Project 3, the design brief called for an architectural response to design AN INTERPRETIVE CENTRE, emphasising a strong engagement and relationship to the site, spatial experiences and programmatic requirements.

The interpretive centre was built to focus on:
-physical point of reference with visual significance that keeps alive the culture/history/memory/essence of the site.
-To provide accommodation to house and display relevant material and interpretive material for public access and information.

The design was then published in 4 A1 boards along with a sectional model in the scale on 1:75.
